20 Ways to Create a Sense of Urgency

We talk about encouraging commitment, accountability and engagement in our team.  What leaders want to create with all these is a sense of urgency – a drive to move fast to accomplish more.  Not an environment of always putting out fires, which can lead to chaos and be less effective, but a motivated focus on doing more, improving, and reaching for the next target.

Here’s a great list of 20 ways to create this in your team, and four key tactics to establish this sense of urgency from ‘The Enterprises Project’ author Rob Lewellyn.  Use these ideas to eradicate complacency, focus on outcomes, make smart decisions and move quickly to implement.  One of our favorite suggestions is to make sure you go outside for input – a ‘we know best’ culture can reduce urgency.  One of the many reasons your leaders are involved in TeamStrength!

Take this into your next team meeting and use it to launch a discussion about the best ways to raise the urgency level and outcomes.
